Always a Great Address: Elegance & Convenience Converge

Back in the day, which was 1908, South Van Ness was an elegant residential street called Howard. The Victorian homes were mostly mansions, well set back with wide sidewalks in front. In the 1920s, with the advent of street cars, the sidewalks were narrowed to accommodate them and in the 1930s the city decided to rename this portion of Howard Street South Van Ness even though it doesn’t quite connect with the rest of Van Ness perfectly smoothly.

In 1908, when 1419 Van Ness was built, this location was bustling, elegant and convenient – much as it is today. The commercial district on 24th was right around the corner and there may even have been a cable car right in front. Livery, trash and other business was hidden behind off of Virgil Street, creating a more genteel day to day appearance for the residents as they came and went.

Now, perhaps more so than ever, this location is sought after for the access it provides. Experience the best of Living415: walk to literally hundreds of restaurants – try Lazy Bear or Doma Sushi (technically Bernal), or discover a new one every day; stroll on Valencia to meet your friends accidentally or on purpose; bike to Gus’s for amazing groceries; shop at some of the best specialty markets in town like Samiramis on Mission or Casa Lucas on 24th; get to work QUICK on your bike, your shuttle, BART or on the freeway. This really is IT when it comes to location.

1419 South Van Ness is also a great home. It is spacious and has been well preserved and prepared for its next lucky occupant. The smooth oak floors welcome you as you open the front door while a row of schoolhouse light fixtures show you the way down the hall past two spacious bedrooms/1 bath to the living room. The living room flows to an oversized eat-in kitchen/dining room where you will probably spend most of your time at home cooking those amazing groceries you picked up on the way home. At the rear of the flat there is a large pantry and a laundry room with a back door that goes directly to the gated rear parking area for the building. There is additional storage accessible directly outside the front or rear door of the unit in a shared hallway.
