A little Guerneville history…

Guerneville was originally the home of the Kashaya Native Americans. At the turn of the 19th century Russian settlers came to grow food and collect pelts to send back to their colony in Alaska. In the mid 1800s American settlers arrived and began logging the Redwood forest. The major boom of the logging industry occurred between 1870 and 1910, giving Guerneville it’s nickname of “Stumptown”. Colonel James Armstrong soon came to the rescue of the giant Redwoods, preserving them and creating Armstrong Woods. Soon the railroads came to the area carrying vacationers from San Francisco and other areas, making vacationing and tourism the major business for the Russian River and Guerneville from 1920 to about 1935. This home was built at the tail end of the Great Depression, in 1939, as the country began to rebound.[1]
